A compromise was found where Mill Road was to stay open, taking on the maternity units of Broadgreen and Sefton General. The asylum was closed in 1997 and the site lies derelict to this day. Built on a site now occupied by the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, Brownlow Hill Infirmary was opened as the Liverpool Parish workhouse in 1772. "There are so many tragic stories from the May Blitz. Alternative pathways are now in place to ensure patients are able to have dignity in their final hours of life.
